Hofri's Crochet Flower

Updated on November 22, 2011

Project Description

Don't know what to do with all those leftover yarns? Make this cute flower motif! Attach it to a key ring with chain and you have a sweet key chain. Connect it to a couple of fish hooks and you have a pretty drop earrings. Glue it to a magnet and you have an adorable refrigerator magnet. The options are infinite! Although this is done in plarn (plastic yarn), feel free to use other yarns. If you want to make plarn go to this site for a tutorial:

How to Make it

Skill Level

Easy

Materials

Plarn

-use plastic that is a little stiff if you want to make the flower firm

-use soft plastic if you want the flower to have a delicate look

-cut into 1/8-inch strips

Crochet Hook

Stiff plarn - No. 5 steel hook

Soft plastic - No. 7 steel hook

Others

Tapestry needles for weaving ends (optional)

Abbreviations

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

dc = double crochet

tr = treble crochet

in = inches

Design Notes

Make your first five chains slightly loose to make it easier to do multiple stitches in them. If not, the multiple stitches in a chain will cover the next chain making it difficult to make the rest of the stitches.

Project Instruction

Ch 16, sc on 2nd ch from hook, 9 sc. You now have 10 sc.

On the next ch, [1 sc, 1dc, 1tr, 1dc, 1sc]. Repeat on the remaining 4 chains. Break off leaving about 3 in of yarn. These stitches serve as your five petals. You should now have something that looks like the photo below.

Unfinished

Make a coil to form the flower. Weave the ends of the yarn using a hook or tapestry needle to hold the coil in place.
